Position Summary Information

Position Summary

The Director of the Office for Disability Services at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania (SRU) provides leadership in offering a comprehensive array of educational and accommodative needs for the general student body. In addition to being responsible for the administrative direction and supervision of the office, the Director also has fiduciary responsibilities, develops, implements, and interprets office goals, priorities and policies. The Director will be responsible for determining eligibility, ensuring the appropriate level of accommodation, and ensuring that students with identified and documented disabilities have equal access to all programs, services and activities at Slippery Rock University. The Director will serve as the campus lead to ensure that SRU is in compliance with federal and state mandates (ADA, 504 ADA, etc.). The Director will oversee departmental staff, including professional, graduate assistants, and student workers.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, or equivalent discipline.
Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in disability services.
Experience working with diverse populations.
Successful performance in an on-campus interview.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of accommodative/disability laws and best practices (ADA, Rehabilitation Act, Civil Rights Act, FERPA, etc.);
Demonstrated understanding of disability/accommodative needs environment;
Proven ability to manage a large caseload of student accommodative requests and support services;
The ability to conduct interviews and review medical documentation to develop appropriate accommodations is essential;
Experience developing academic support plans to meet accommodative needs;
Knowledge of learning, physical, psychological, and medical disabilities and accommodations;
