Position Summary Information

Position Summary

The College of Education at Slippery Rock University is seeking candidates for a full-time, tenure track position in Early Childhood Literacy Education PK-4, within the Elementary/Early Childhood Education Department beginning Fall 2018.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Teaching undergraduate courses related to literacy content within the early childhood years.

Teaching graduate-level courses in K-12 Reading Specialist M.Ed. and Certification program, including instructional coaching.
Supervise literacy practica at the graduate level.

Supervising students in early field work or student teaching.

Advisement to students.

The successful candidate is also expected to form positive and collaborative relationships with schools and early childhood programs, participate on department and university committees, maintain an exemplary record of scholarly growth, and participate in service activities, especially as related to teaching.

Minimum Qualifications

Evidence of doctorate in teaching reading or a related field.

Evidence of at least 3 years teaching experience—birth to grade 4, including the teaching of literacy.

Demonstrated excellence in the teaching of literacy.

Evidence of a demonstrated commitment to the education of diverse populations.

Ability to pursue a research agenda and external funding in early childhood and/or literacy education; evidence of scholarly potential.

Successful performance in an on-campus interview and teaching demonstration is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate:

Reading Specialist K-12 Certification.

Evidence of experience in undergraduate and graduate course design and teaching.

Evidence of educational research, reflective of an awareness and understanding of current best practices in literacy within early childhood literacy education.

Evidence of experience utilizing instructional technology in the teaching-learning process, especially as related to literacy.

Evidence of experience in teaching hybrid or online courses.

Successful experience teaching English language learners.

Experience and collaboration with school districts, including literacy coaches, teachers and families.

Evidence of skills necessary to establish collaborative relationships with colleagues and community or school based practitioners in diverse early childhood settings.
