Position Summary Information

Position Summary

The Department of Interdisciplinary Programs at Slippery Rock University seeks candidates for a half time, temporary sabbatical replacement Instructor in Sociology in the College of Liberal Arts for the spring 2018 semester. Applicants should have a record of successful teaching Sociology courses.

The instructor will be expected to teach Principles of Sociology, Urban Sociology and/or other courses as assigned.
Applicants selected for interviews will be expected to provide documentation of successful teaching; e.g. evaluations (peer and students),syllabus, course materials, etc. and the names and contact information for three professional/academic references.
The Department of Interdisciplinary Programs offers a BS in Interdisciplinary Programs with seven concentrations: Anthropology, Cultural Area Studies, Gender and Diversity Studies, Leadership Studies, Liberal Arts, Philanthropy and Nonprofit Management, and Sociology. The department is a social science oriented department with a strong theoretical orientation in Sociology and Anthropology which study society and culture and link that study to programming designed to teach students the use of theory into practice. The department is located within the College of Liberal Arts.

Minimum Qualifications

Masters Degree or higher in Sociology
College level teaching experience in Sociology
Experience with teaching a diverse student population that includes significant numbers of first-generation university students
Successful performance in an interview and teaching demonstration.
