Position Summary Information

Position Summary

Slippery Rock University, Slippery Rock, PA is seeking 1 dynamic, self-motivated, full-time, tenure-track faculty member with excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills to be part of the PA Program team as we continue fully implement the Program at Slippery Rock University. The curriculum will focus on training PAs to be comfortable with and provide medical care for “special needs” patient populations in addition to the typical PA education training of PAs. The individual will have teaching, advising, admissions and other responsibilities as a principal faculty member; participating in the development, implementation and assessment of the Physician Assistant Program curriculum; developing, delivering and assessing objective driven course material; representing the PA Program at professional functions; applicant recruitment; securing and maintaining clinical sites; and student advising, evaluation and remediation. This position will involve more clinical-year responsibility than academic-year responsibility. The Program is looking for PAs who are interested in working with other clinical year team members on clinical site development, student placement, evaluation, and monitoring. This position would be required to visit clinical sites and students during the clinical year and maintaining good relationships with the local community and clinical facilities. These position involve clinical setting one-on-one instruction and often smaller classroom sizes during the academic year. Scholarly activity, University/Program service and professional organization involvement will be required. Continued clinical work or research will be encouraged.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must be a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program or its equivalent, hold current NCCPA certification, be eligible for licensure in Pennsylvania and have at least 2 years of clinical experience as a practicing PA. Successful performances in an on-campus interview and a teaching demonstration, as well as a commitment to the education of diverse populations, are required.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include experience in curriculum development, data collection, assessment, accreditation, academia, clinical preceptorships, computer and technology proficiency, ability to multitask and prior experience teaching in a Physician Assistant Program or clinical setting. Experience teaching clinical skills and history and physical examination, precepting PA students, providing constructive feedback to students, developing simulated patient case scenarios, active involvement in the regional healthcare community, and ability to set up a ½-day clinical schedule, as well as experience with “special needs” patient populations, are a plus.
