Position Summary

Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania invites applications for the position of Program Director of the Physician Assistant Program. The University seeks a dynamic and visionary program leader with a passion for teaching excellence, learning, and innovation who will be responsible for planning, developing, and overseeing a Master’s degree in Physician Assistant that meets the needs of the Commonwealth and the profession.

As a public comprehensive university and one of fourteen institutions in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, Slippery Rock is a vibrant, student-centered community of learners and scholars. The university places a high value on the quality of the teaching and learning experience with over 150 undergraduate programs and tracks, 25 master’s degree programs, and a doctoral program in physical therapy. The University is selective in admissions and enrolls over 7800 undergraduate and 700 graduate students.

As the leader of the Physician Assistant program, the Program Director is responsible for the organization, administration, fiscal management, continuous review and analysis, planning, development and participation in the accreditation process of the Physician Assistant Program. This includes identifying appropriate clinical sites, maintaining accreditation standards, supervising the medical directors, principal and instructional faculty and staff in all activities that directly relate to the Physician Assistant Program and effective leadership and management to all aspects of the program for daily operation. This is a tenure track faculty position.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must be a Physician Assistant (PA-C) or Physician (MD/DO). Physician Assistant applicants must hold a Master’s in Physician Assistant studies from an ARC-PA accredited program (doctorate in related field preferred), five years of experience as a physician assistant in a clinical practice setting, two years of experience as faculty in a Physician Assistant Master’s program with preference for more, hold current NCCPA certification and hold or be eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

A Physician applicant should have experience in leadership, management, and Physician Assistant education. An MD/DO candidate must hold or be eligible for licensure as allopathic or osteopathic physician in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania with certification from an ABMS or AOA approved specialty board.

The successful candidate must have experience with ARC-PA accreditation and managerial and leadership experience. Successful candidate should be knowledgeable about and will be responsible for program organization, administration, fiscal management, continuous review and analysis, planning, development and participation in accreditations processes. Successful candidate will be a strategic thinker, and be supportive of a college culture grounded on collaboration and team-oriented leadership.

Candidates must successfully complete an on campus interview and teaching demonstration.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in as many of the following areas as possible: prior program director, additional years of experience in a PA program beyond the minimum requirements, strategic planning and budgeting, resource allocation and assessment planning; technology integration into the educational experience and online learning; working with traditional and non-traditional aged students; supervision of staff and an interest in developing a focus on primary care and special needs populations.
