Position Summary Information

Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Web Communications will assist the Director of Web Communications in the development/maintenance of the Slippery Rock University website (www.sru.edu). This position contributes in content creation/management, while also developing views/templates, workflows and other Content Management System related developmental items. The Assistant Director of Web Communications will contribute to current SRU Web programs for University content persons, refine static content and templates for certain tier materials, contribute to and develop new Web improvement programs, work and develop extensively in the CMS, and also create workflows/materials for pre-defined Web functions and processes. The Assistant Director of Web Communications works in both frontend and backend development and will contribute in coding/design and other Web related endeavors as assigned.

Technical skills desired:

• Advanced knowledge in HTML5, CSS, JavaScript
• Capability of utilizing Web programing languages and scripts common in CMS integration (C#/Razor MVC, PHP)
• Experience with task runners (Grunt or Similar) and CSS preprocessors (SASS)
• Demonstrated technical and administrative experience with Content Management Systems
• Demonstrated experience and familiarity with developmental Web environments/workflows
• Capability of adhering to and contributing to SRU’s technical Web standards
• Understanding of browser limitations/testing
• Have a functional understanding of higher education Web structures and permission structures
• Understand the function of, and be capable with, XML in a database agnostic content management system

Additional skills/characteristics desired:

• Familiarity with Web accessibility (WCAG), Web standards and analytics platforms
• Experience with project/content management in an enterprise Web system
• Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premier)
• Capability of training non-technical users and managing copy/image assets as assigned
• Ability to contribute to content creation
• Ability to work within an exceptionally detail oriented environment
• Provide assistance in vendor related contract items/preparations as needed
• Provide support/training as needed
• Be capable of working with a diverse group of student workers, faculty, staff and administrators.

The Assistant Director of Web Communications is expected to have the drive and ability to contribute in all facets of higher education Web endeavors for the University.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Communications, Multimedia Technology or other technologically driven field.
3-5+ years of Web related development/coding (HTML/CSS/JS/PHP etc.) and content management system experience.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated success in Web environments/endeavors.
The ability to work in a team oriented environment and independently.
Adobe Photoshop functional experience.
Successful performance in an on-campus interview.

Preferred Qualifications

A Master’s degree in a technologically driven field or additional certifications/training in correspondence with a bachelors degree as defined above.
2+ years experience in integration involving MVC/Razor/cshtml/C#, software development, or higher education CMS integration.
Visual Studio experience.
Social media experience.
